From the Chapter President

Hola Familia!

As our 2016-2017 fiscal year is well underway, the e-board has been working for the past few months in planning out ways to not only revive the chapter, but provide the members with better opportunities to network and develop as professionals and leaders in their careers. They have also been working closely within our communities throughout Central Florida through volunteering, charitable events, and STEM outreach

I want to thank all of you who have showed support as we find new ways to grow our chapter once again. A special thanks to Esteban Guerra who has led us for the past few months in not only getting the chapter off to a great start, but in assuring that it continues once he leaves to pursue a new career opportunity. Join me in congratulating and wishing him the best of luck.

As I take on the responsibility as President, I want to incorporate newer and better ways to serve you, the members. I welcome any ideas and feedback that will contribute not only in growing our SHPE Central Florida familia, but ourselves as professionals.

On behalf of the E-board and myself, we invite you all to take part in our upcoming events and to stay connected via our newsletter and all our other forms of communication that can be found at the bottom of all our newsletters.

All the best,

Andres Vargas
President ’16-’17

SOS Ecuador Campaign

SHPE Central Florida Professional Chapter has started a social campaign “SOS Ecuador” in order to help the people of the country and make a difference.

Dear  Members:

As you know, Ecuador was hit by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake followed by 4 more magnitude 6 and 5.8 earthquakes, 230 aftershocks and has affected thousands of people. SHPE Central Florida Professional Chapter has started a social campaign “SOS Ecuador” in order to help the people of the country and make a difference. This video shows the magnitude of the earthquake and the damage to the country https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hd62I_jLYF4

SHPE CFL is working directly with two strong organizations “the Permanent Representative of Ecuador to the Organization of American States (OAS) in Washington DC” and” the Sub-Secretary of the United Nations in Switzerland in charge for disability” in global campaigns that will make a difference on Ecuador’s future. Also, SHPE CFL has partner with North Lake Park Elementary and “Unidos Por Ecuador” foundation in Orlando in order to reach out to the Orlando community and gather supplies to send to Ecuador.

There are 3  ways to donate if interested and any small donations can have a major impact on a distressed country like Ecuador after the earthquake:

  1. United Nations – Houses Reconstruction Project for People with Disability: This donation will be led by the United Nations in Switzerland and the Sub-secretary of Disability. People with all type of disabilities that need special care and attention will be the beneficiaries of this program. Monetary donations are crucial but does not have to be strictly financial. They can be on the form of engineering and technical support for the project. Please incorporate the following nomenclature with your donations (your name – #SHPECFL ).
