SOS Ecuador Campaign

SHPE Central Florida Professional Chapter has started a social campaign “SOS Ecuador” in order to help the people of the country and make a difference.

Dear  Members:

As you know, Ecuador was hit by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake followed by 4 more magnitude 6 and 5.8 earthquakes, 230 aftershocks and has affected thousands of people. SHPE Central Florida Professional Chapter has started a social campaign “SOS Ecuador” in order to help the people of the country and make a difference. This video shows the magnitude of the earthquake and the damage to the country

SHPE CFL is working directly with two strong organizations “the Permanent Representative of Ecuador to the Organization of American States (OAS) in Washington DC” and” the Sub-Secretary of the United Nations in Switzerland in charge for disability” in global campaigns that will make a difference on Ecuador’s future. Also, SHPE CFL has partner with North Lake Park Elementary and “Unidos Por Ecuador” foundation in Orlando in order to reach out to the Orlando community and gather supplies to send to Ecuador.

There are 3  ways to donate if interested and any small donations can have a major impact on a distressed country like Ecuador after the earthquake:

  1. United Nations – Houses Reconstruction Project for People with Disability: This donation will be led by the United Nations in Switzerland and the Sub-secretary of Disability. The donations will be going straight to a United Nations account that will have the objective on collecting funds to reconstruct the houses for the Ecuadorian disable community. People with all type of disabilities that need special care and attention will be the beneficiaries of this program. Monetary donations are crucial but does not have to be strictly financial. They can be on the form of engineering and technical support for the project. Drawing development, project managing, technical suggestions, etc. The United Nations and Ecuador are in need, and your engineering experience can help make a difference. Please incorporate the following nomenclature with your donations (your name – #SHPECFL ). If you would like to participate on the projects team and help with your engineering expertise, please don’t hesitate to contact us and we will channel your request to the United Nations.
